Cecelia G. Hanahue of North Scranton passed away Monday at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of John “Jack” Hanahue who died May 16, 2013. At the time of Jack’s passing they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Barbara Zigmont Mitchell. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School class of 1952. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Medical Secretary by Dr. Meena Desai.
She was an avid Penn State fan, enjoyed travel, and going to the casinos, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Church, North Scranton, now a member of Mary Mother of God Parish.
Cecelia’s family would like to thank the entire staff of Allied Hospice, for their wonderful care and compassion.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Drungell, Sharon Murray and husband Richard, Karen Savage and husband Peter, all of Scranton; three grandchildren, Molly Murray, Kate Savage, and John Paul Savage; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Adele Bardzel, Anne Kumpas, Louise Kumpas, Ursula Skechus, Mary Kumpas, Madeline Samulaitis; four brothers, Joseph Bocanawah, George Kumpas, Anthony Kumpas, and Charles Kumpas.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Friday 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
