August “Gus” DePietro Sr., 89, of Scranton, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at Allied Services Hospice Center. He was the husband of Marie Siciliano, who died in 2008.
Born in Scranton, son of the late James and Mary DeMatteo DePietro, he was educated in Scranton public schools. A proud United States Army veteran, August served his country in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 675, where he served as commander.
Before retiring, August and his wife owned and operated Jay’s Catering and Restaurant in West Scranton. A very faithful and religious man, he was a member of St. Lucy’s Church.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Allied Services Hospice Center and Dr. Eric Smith.
Surviving are a son, August Jr. and wife, Renee; a grandson, Aaron and wife, Brooke, a granddaughter, Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Rosalie, Finn and Nicholas; a sister, Grace Aquilina; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Louise Meila and Vincenza DePietro; and a brother, Connie DePietro.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, 949 Scranton St. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects Monday, 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA 18509.
